In a multiparty research agreement, we are working to build a prototype of downhole surveying machine based on fiber optic gyroscopes. The data gathered with Borehole Surveying Devices could be used in drill planning & reserve planning of oil & gas wells.
This new generation of Borehole surveying devices is based on combining data of accelerometer, magnetometer, and fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) for obtaining 3D locational path of the bore hole. FOG will not have any error in magnetic fields, and it is able to have more accuracy than MEMS gyro.
